The London Photographer’s Gallery are hosting a Shirley Baker photography exhibition in their print sales gallery from 21st June – 28th July.
There are rare vintage prints of daily life in the working class streets of Manchester and Salford, and lesser known work including photographs of Manchester Dog show, and the British seaside in the 1960s.
There are two new Shirley Baker Cafe Royal Books and a selection of postcards for sale in the gallery’s bookshop.
The Private View
One of the photographs for sale is this photograph of Southport Beach taken in the 1960s. It caused a great deal of interest on the opening night, because it is not Shirley’s usual style. The stark positioning of cars on a windswept beach give it an American feel.
